Valentine’s Day

Frankly speaking: Please don’t be anal about V-Day!

V – Day

I am hopeless romantic and would take up any excuse for the celebration of love.

I have heard the blah blah about it being so commercial and a ploy to buy expensive gifts, just as a means to prove your adoration.

Come on guys -This is the month of LOVE – cuddle and embrace it!

Let cute Cupid shoot an arrow into your heart and inspire you to write out quirky cards and send a dozen of roses.

Comment and tell me what V-Day means to you!

Ok, so i’m not as a hopeless romantic as most woman are, I could go the day without the roses, chocolates, cards, etc.
Although I must admit, getting flowers delivered to my place of work, does make me feel somewhat special, I still feel that these acts of romance should not be reserved for “special” days as prescribed by the media/company’s who benefit exorbitently from the rise of sales on days earmarked as special.

I remember “back in the day” valentine’s day was a day of letting someone know that you “liked” them, for lack of a better word, but the receiver was completely oblivious as to who the sender was, the mystery around the day and receiving flowers, card or chocolates from a secret admirer was much more romantic. Not to say that those who are permanently attached a.k.a married cannot partake in sending gifts anonymously, but why limit it to one day?

What excites me more about valentine’s day now, being a mother, is the card my little one’s going to come home with, something that they’ve put plenty of time & effort into. Spending the better time of this week, cutting, pasting, colouring in & trying to write I LOVE YOU MOMMY ever so carefully onto a piece of cardboard that’s just a tad too small to fit the wording onto it. Now that is what I look forward to and no amount of roses or gifts or chocolates is going to top this card from the heart.

    Happy Valentine’s day :-)

Valentines day is the day my hubby and I eloped and got married. We thought what the heck we are both madly in love we both know we are both “the one” so two weeks before V-day we planned it all. Just us two love birds standing in a place surrounded by strangers, holding hands and loving knowing we are about to take the biggest leap of our lives. Two years later we are still as happy as can be. It certainly makes Valentines day extra special and besides its a date he wont easily forget.

I haven’t always been big on this day, I would go out of my way to do little special things for my kids (handmade cards and choccies etc) but that was about it. I am all about the small things and I don’t believe that you have to spend a small fortune to show someone that you are thinking about them.
My husband and I had a rough 2012 + 2013 (to say the least), so since last September we decided to go out of our way to celebrate our love for each other, which we didn’t do in the past.

So this year, having no money and little time (because I am a procrastinator by nature) I had to be creative. I started with little cheesy notes this morning in all the little spots he would find them, then before I left, I left a beautiful LOVE LETTER (which he wanted btw – he wrote me one in November and wanted a reply. Can you see how delayed I am LOL) And then I have left his favorite after work snacks (Coke and a Fruit and Nut slab) chilling in the fridge at home, for when he gets home. I also made my own little “Because I love you! Coupon Booklet” (its got about 15 coupons-he will love them) which I will give to him when I get home….and then my favorite part….In my letter, I told him that this will all end in bed tonight. So I have arranged movies for the kids tonight with their Aunty and I have HIS all time romantic movie ready and waiting…THE NOTEBOOK! So as you guys can well imagine, I am pretty damn impressed with myself…lol

He wasn’t to shabby either, he personally delivered roses and choccies, sweeties and bed slipper to my office today. And I really wasn’t expecting this much.

So Valentines Day this year seems to be going swimmingly…I may not be shouting my love at the top of my voice off the mountain…but the little sweet connections between the hubster and I, is making my heart smile <3

    Enjoy your day guys
    Cindy
